In this course we will identify, discuss, and critically analyze a variety of theological issues that arise in the clinical setting and in supervision of clinical pastoral education (CPE) students. Examination of traditional religious thought will complement the unique inter-religious and multi-faith context of spiritual care, where contemporary theology crosses interdisciplinary boundaries. In general, theological issues and concerns arise both for patients and for CPE students; for example, concerns about theodicy, the search for meaning, and loss are central to spiritual care and supervision.
