African American churches face unique social, economic and political challenges in the 21st century. To effectively serve their congregations in these increasingly fraught times, it is crucial for African American pastors to be equipped to fully comprehend the implications of important events and issues in the public square, to adequately communicate their significance to congregation and community, and to suggest constructive ways to respond. This course discusses some of the most pressing of those issues and explores biblically-based strategies to address them. Prophetic ministry topics patriarchy, economic inequality, LGBTQ advocacy, environmental racism, white supremacy, the role of music, democratic socialism, capitalism and public policy.
